Salary: Salary will be £22,417 to £25,941 per annum on Grade 5 on the single salary spine. The normal expectation is that starting salary will be at the minimum of the advertised salary scale.
Location: Norwich

The Assistant Curator will work mainly on the development and delivery of the Sainsbury Centre’s temporary exhibitions programme and collections displays. Working with colleagues in Curatorial, Collections Management, Technical, Learning and Communications, the post holder will be expected to work collaboratively in the delivery of the programme of exhibition and displays. In addition the post holder will contribute to the development of the collection through its acquisition programme. The Assistant Curator will be expected to a key role in the provision of gallery text and contribute to the related events and activities such as gallery talks. The Assistant Curator will have a specialism relating the collections but also have a keen interest in the ancient, modern and international perspective of the Sainsbury Centre.

Main duties include:

To support the planning, co-ordination and delivery of specific exhibition projects. This will include involvement in researching exhibitions, putting together exhibition project plans and budgets, drafting loan requests to external lenders, working with other team members to submit grant applications, working with guest curators and designers, assisting with arrangements for the transport and insurance of works of art, assisting with the installation of works of art, liaising with the Centre’s communications and press team, representing SCVA at external meetings.

Involvement in all aspects of exhibition publication projects from initial outline to delivery. This will include gallery materials, catalogues and books.

Writing and preparing texts – ensuring relevant sign-off from key colleagues – for publications, gallery guides or object labels. Supporting the work of communications and press colleagues with the provision of images and text as required.

Provide support to The Joyce and Michael Morris Chief Curator of Art and Directorate in the development and monitoring of exhibition budgets.

Administrative and planning support for exhibition projects allocated by The Joyce and Michael Morris Chief Curator of Art.

Working closely with colleagues across the Centre to support the development and delivery of innovative interpretive strategies and events.

Preparing material for the collections and exhibitions pages of the Sainsbury Centre website.

Working on and facilitating display, research, interpretation and other projects relating to the collections.

Contributing to the cataloguing of the collections. Researching and writing catalogue entries, and updating the museum object database.

To act as key team member supporting the delivery of exhibition installations – working alongside technical and conservation colleagues to assist with the installation of all works of art.

Other Duties:

Deputising for The Joyce and Michael Morris Chief Curator when required.

As requested by the Directorate or The Joyce and Michael Morris Chief Curator of Art, to represent the Centre at internal and external events.

Taking visitors, guides, sponsors, VIPs around the collections and exhibitions.

Assisting with other Gallery related tasks

Any other relevant duties that are commensurate with the grade of the post.
