The British Museum is seeking a curator to assist in the curation and specialist conservation of the outstanding collection of clocks, watches and scientific instruments in the horology section of the Department of Britain, Europe & Prehistory. The successful post holder will care for these objects ensuring appropriate storage, documentation and maintenance of the public galleries, supporting access to the collection by running the Horological Students’ Room and assisting with public enquiries.

Key areas of responsibility:

To maintain and conserve the clocks and watches
To wind the clocks in the public gallery and around the museum daily
To maintain the efficient and safe operation of the horological conservation workshop
To act as a courier for transporting collection objects to and from external locations, both in the United Kingdom and abroad
To supervise photography of the horological collection
To work on research projects
To assist with changes to the displays
To assist with documentation including the improvement of records in the collection database
To assist with organization of the annual Dingwall-Beloe lecture and any activities that promote an understanding of horology
