Programme Officer

Programme Officer
Employer: Natural History Museum
Salary: £34,959
Location: London

The Natural History Museum is one of the world's leading museums, internationally recognised for its dual role as a centre of excellence in scientific research and as a leader in the presentation of natural history through exhibitions, public programmes, publications and the web.

Our collection of more than 80 million natural science specimens is the world’s most scientifically important and underpins both our exhibitions and pioneering research programmes. Our 350 scientists tackle important global challenges, spanning mineral scarcity, food security and biodiversity loss. The Museum is globally-renowned for excellence in science and research and championing digital capacity and innovation.

The Collections Programme is aiming to enhance the Museum’s ability to unlock access to these globally important specimens for scientific teaching and research, and to safeguard them for future generations.

This programme is in its second phase which is focused on seeking Government funding, engaging colleagues and other stakeholders in this major change programme and discussions with potential partners.

As a part of this, we are looking for a Programme Officer to lead work with scientists and other colleagues in the Museum to develop a blueprint for what we need from a new building and how we would manage the complex task of moving specimens. As the work evolves, you may move to work on other aspects of this Programme or other major programmes.

The successful candidate will have a MSP Practitioner level or other programme management qualification, and experience of using a formal programme management governance framework. You will have significant experience of working in programme and project management roles, in a multidisciplinary environment, ideally within a museum or heritage organisation, or a scientific research institute. With a flexible in approach and able to adapt to change, you will enjoy helping colleagues and the programme respond to a changing political environment.
