HMS Belfast is the famous Second World War survivor and iconic London landmark. Across 9 decks, the ship holds guns that fired some of the first shots on D-Day right down to the engine rooms 15ft below sea level, where our visitors can get up close to the inner workings of a warship and hear hundreds of powerful stories from those who worked on board.

The Senior Conservator will be responsible for leading a small diverse team of staff and volunteers, carrying out conservation and maintenance of the ship, structure and fittings.

You will be responsible for line management and supervision of Warship Conservation staff working on HMS Belfast., including the development and supervision of volunteer and apprentice projects to support the work of the Warship Conservation team and the Care and Conservation Section. You will monitor and survey projects, as delegated by the Conservation Manager and/or Collection Care Manager, in order to deliver strategic preservation programmes and support, promote and ensure the accountability of the collections by working within IWM collection management policies and procedures.

Using your skills and specialisation, deliver the conservation of objects and ensure any risks to objects are managed effectively and be responsible for the induction of new Warship Conservation staff and volunteers.
