The Natural History Museum is one of the world’s leading museums, internationally recognised for its dual role as a centre of excellence in scientific research and as a leader in the presentation of natural history through exhibitions, public programmes, publications and the web.

The Museum is a diverse organisation primarily funded by Government grant-in-aid, and also run other income generating activities such as ticketed exhibitions, science research and consultancy, retail and events. Upon the cusp of our new strategy, we are now embarking on a major capital investment and fund-raising programme to deliver its mission and transform its offer.

As a part of this, we are looking for a Project Accountant, who will report to the Senior Management Accountant and the Head of Finance to provide support to the Programme Management Office (PMO) by leading on programme and project budgets and forecasts, producing accurate and timely financial reports for both income and expenditure and proactively assisting in all aspects of the programmes’ financial management.

Our finance system is Access Dimensions, with an end user interface, Focal Point, which allows individuals to raise and manage purchase orders, expense claims and sales transactions. Focal Point is also used to store and manage project information, including (but not limited to) financial information.

You will lead on the financial reporting for the priority capital and innovation programmes, as well as provide forward focused, accurate and relevant management information to Project managers and other stakeholders, through the provision of relevant monthly reports, cash flow forecasts, reconciliations and KPI’s.

You will be part qualified (or equivalent experience), studying towards an accountancy qualification e.g. ACCA or CIMA, with substantial experience in a management/project accounts function. Skilled in stakeholder engagement, you will also come with experience of control account reconciliations to an advanced level and some accounting package experience.
