Over the last 20 years Gibside has evolved in to one of the most visited attractions in the North East and an essential green space for the people of County Durham, Tyneside, and beyond. Inspired by a grand vision, this once forgotten and fragmented wilderness now sits proudly in the top twenty of most-visited places in the entire National Trust portfolio. The multi-million pound project represents the crucial first stage of the ten-year vision for Gibside. We’ve completed the initial feasibility work and are now looking for an experienced project manager to take our thinking forward through detail design and implementation.

What you'll be doing
You will be leading our committed and passionate Project Team, drawn from within the North Consultancy and operations, to complete the necessary work for us to deliver a significant project at Gibside. You will oversee the delivery of multiple workstreams; development of a contemporary garden, new café building, improved retail and play areas, plus fundraising, visitor experience, partnership development etc. Managing inter-dependencies and risks will be crucial. A core part of the work will be developing relationships with our key stakeholders whose support is important to the success of this project. The culture we are setting is one of partnership working and inclusivity, and it is vital that you embody this approach.

Your day to day work will include the monitoring of the project plan, financial management and administration, change control, project reporting, stakeholder management both internal and external.

It is an exciting time for the project management community at the National Trust, with an ambitious plan for project delivery across the North Region and a growing network of project managers sharing expertise and implementing our award winning project management framework.

Could you do it? We want not just a passion for project management but some expertise and experience. Your project management expertise will encompass project planning and feasibility studies, the management of design teams, procurement, construction phase delivery and financial management. You will have experience of delivering projects in a multi-disciplinary environment, a clear client focus and the ability to work and effectively manage your time across a number of project phases.

You’ll be working with a diverse range of stakeholders in the Trust and also external agencies, contractors and funders and will ensure that everyone involved is informed, on track, and up to date with project progress. This may also include acting as point of contact for the local community and planning authorities, and representing the National Trust in meetings and media to emphasise the benefits of the project within the local area.
