The Horniman Museum and Gardens in south east London has been open since Victorian times, when the tea trader and philanthropist, Frederick John Horniman first opened his house and extraordinary collection of objects to the local community. Since then, our collection has grown significantly and includes internationally important collections of anthropology and musical instruments, as well as an acclaimed aquarium and natural history gallery – all surrounded by 16 acres of beautiful Gardens offering breath-taking views across London.

The Horniman provides learning experiences for a diverse range of visitors, including schools, families, community groups, young people and adults using our spaces, displays and a Handling Collection of over 3500 objects. This post provides key operational, administrative and engagement support for the family programme, helping to plan, deliver and evaluate a diverse and high-quality family learning programme that runs throughout the year.

You will have substantial experience of engaging families in a cultural setting. You will have an appreciation for the diverse nature of family groups and be confident engaging with the public and presenting learning content. You will be able to work flexibly, within a team and independently. Your creativity, administration skills and experience will help shape the Horniman’s public programme.
