The Head of Programme Office defines and maintains standards for project management at IWM, including the provision of standardised documentation and guidance on the practice of project management and relevant training. The post also works with the Assistant Director of Strategy and Governance and Head of Strategy and Business Planning to manage the approval process for new projects as part of corporate planning, ensuring that IWM prioritises projects which will deliver the most value and are aligned to IWM’s strategic objectives and vision, and ensure sufficient resources are allocated to those projects. The post will also monitor and report on progress and performance of active projects to senior management.

Key duties

Lead the Programme Office and maintain oversight of the project portfolio using appropriate tools.
Maintaining, reviewing and constantly improving the project management methodology, framework, templates and guidance.
Ensure project governance standards are met, that all project reporting (risks, issues, progress, etc.) is managed and all programme documentation is produced to required standards.
Manage the Project Manager Framework ensuring the delivery of projects across the organisation using IWM’s project management procedure and manage relationships with our appointed Project Manager Consultant suppliers and retender when required.
Design and provide training in project management as part of IWM’s Learning and Development Prospectus.
Support the corporate planning process, including managing the approval process of new projects as part of corporate planning, ensuring that IWM prioritises projects which will deliver the most value and are aligned to IWM’s strategic objectives and vision
Assist in monitoring business performance by reviewing KPIs during and at the end of completed projects against submitted business cases and PIDs. This includes using visitor data and market research results, monitoring financial performance and the achievement of efficiency savings.
Develop internal reporting and evaluation mechanisms (for example, performance dashboard and lessons learned database) to ensure timely distribution of business information
Manage the evaluation framework, ensuring that all projects and activity conduct sufficient and appropriate evaluation,
Identify issues and highlight opportunities through the monitoring of project progress, escalating risks and issues when needed
Manage and provide support of the delivery of projects delivered by other project managers at IWM, ensuring projects are being well managed.
Managing strategically important projects to budget, agreed times and quality. This will frequently involve liaising with many different stakeholders and delegating tasks to project participants, as well as regular reporting out of project activity, and intervention where necessary. Line manage the Project Manager.
Work in such a manner as to ensure their own safety and the safety of others including members of the public and report to their Manager any hazards, dangerous occurrences or dangerous equipment they see, and any accident they are involved in or that they witness.
Be aware of and abide by IWM's information security policy regarding the handling of all sensitive and personal data
Deputise for the Assistant Director, Strategy and Governance - internally and externally as appropriate and where required.
