Join us as we start out on a new and exciting opportunity to change the way in which we involve, listen to and support young people to have a voice and play an active role in shaping our heritage. With funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund's Kick the Dust programme, this is a fantastic opportunity to dramatically change youth participation within our charity and the ways in which history and heritage are perceived by 11 to 25 year olds.

English Heritage cares for over 400 historic monuments, buildings and places. Through these, we bring the story of England to life for over 10 million visitors each year.

English Heritage has a strategic plan that places volunteering and participation at the heart of our charity objectives. We aim to always create quality, well-managed and rewarding opportunities for volunteers to join us in bringing history to life. We are delighted by the opportunity to expand this to broaden participation to a wider and more diverse pool of young people than ever before.

You will be part of our Shout Out Loud Project team, delivering the first of a three year project to excite engage and involve young people with heritage. By coordinating and delivering a programme of activities for 11-16 year olds you will also ensure that their voices are at the heart of the project. Through a network of partner organisations in your local patch and our national partners you will look at how we can provide and promote further opportunities.

To help you deliver the programme you will recruit and manage a small team of volunteers.

The role will include regular travel around a patch of sites including York Cold War Bunker and Berwick Barracks in the north and Stonehenge and Eltham Palace in the South. There will also be occasional travel to further afield including for team working, this may include overnight stays.

You will have a passion for meaningful engagement with young people and putting their voices at the heart of everything you do. You will have easy rapport with young people as well as the wider team of staff and volunteers that you work with. As an innovative thinker you will have a track record of organising a number of different activities with the direction of young people.

As a youth and community worker, you will have experience of working with a number of key stakeholders and creating your own networks for partnership activities. You will have experience of recruiting and managing volunteers.

You will have a proven record of working within deadlines to deliver results whilst taking into account the needs of a number of stakeholders. With experience of working within the charitable sector you will understand the processes of working on a funded programme.

You will enjoy the rewards of a great team environment, with the opportunity to travel to a number of our historic properties in the support of project activities.
