The Museum is looking to recruit an individual to care for the collection through preventive conservation measures in support of the Museum's operating plan, and to contribute to public outreach activities of the Department of Conservation.

Key areas of responsibility:

• To contribute to the preventive conservation of collections made of a wide range of organic and inorganic materials.
• To contribute to the care of the collection through dedicated projects on collections in store.
• To work collaboratively with colleagues within the department and across the museum.
• To contribute to the development of new preventive or interventive measures.
• To assist with the care of the collection through documentation, surveys, data collection, analysis, and support at public events.
• To assist with the care of the collection through advice on and training in best practice.

Person Specification:

The successful candidate will have a recognised professional qualification in preventive conservation, conservation or heritage science (or equivalent experience) with practical experience in preventive care of museum or heritage collections. You will have good knowledge of current conservation practice and ethical standards and a demonstrable ability to solve complex problems. The ability to communicate effectively and openly is essential for this post, as is the ability to work collaboratively in a team.
