Freelance Curator

Freelance Curator
Employer: Birmingham Museums Trust
Salary: £9,000 (plus local expenses directly related to the project, although excluding travel from home to place of work)
Location: Birmingham

We are looking for a freelance curator who can research and develop the theme of ‘leisure’ in relation to Birmingham and lead on making new acquisitions in this area that are relevant to local communities. This is an exciting opportunity to deliver on a key aspect of one of Birmingham Museums’ signature projects, funded through the Heritage Lottery Fund’s Collecting Cultures programme. The project is an innovative engagement-led collecting project that aims to build a shared understanding of the stories of local people, places and events around the theme of ‘growing up, living and working in Birmingham’. Through it we are developing a new methodology for collecting, involving curatorial and engagement staff working together closely to make acquisitions of relevance and importance to the city’s diverse communities.

You should have understanding of Birmingham history and communities, preferably in relation to the theme of ‘leisure’. In addition, you will need a strong track record in collections research and acquisition, as well as experience of working as part of a team and engaging with diverse audiences.
