Assistant Archivist

Assistant Archivist
Employer: Science Museum Group
Salary: Up to £22,000 + benefits
Location: Wroughton

Are you skilled in appraising museum archives for their importance? Would you like to use your knowledge to contribute to a once-in-a-lifetime museum project?

The Science Museum Group is looking for an Assistant Archivist to play an important role in the One Collection project - our strategic initiative to re-imagine how our collection is cared for, accessed and shared.

In this role, you will manage the receipt of unaccessioned collections at our site in Wroughton, near Swindon, considering their importance and relevance as well as their potential for research and digitisation. In addition to helping to prepare proposals to accession items to our permanent collection, you will research and allocate storage locations for any materials we are unable to house permanently.

With experience of appraising archives for their historical and cultural importance you will also have knowledge of professional archive cataloguing. You will have previously used a collections management system, such as MIMSY or Adlib, and you will be collaborative and methodical in your approach.

You will be offered excellent benefits, including 25 days annual leave, a contributory pension scheme, BUPA medical and dental care, an annual season ticket loan and numerous staff discounts whilst developing your career in a world class museum group.
