This is a 2 year fixed term contract.

To assist in the vital work of restoring and conserving our historic collection. We are transforming IWM London. Over the next decade a series of redevelopment projects will regenerate the museum, starting with the creation of brand new First World War galleries to mark the centenary of the outbreak of the First World War in 2014. The majority of the large object conservation work will be carried out at IWM Duxford.

Key duties

You will be expected to work independently as well as across different teams in order to contribute to and deliver the priorities of IWM - using your knowledge, skills, talent and potential to the best of your ability.

You will focus at all times on delivering excellent customer service, ensure value for money at all times while being professional, courteous and demonstrating the behaviours and attributes expected of all IWM employees. You will also adhere to all corporate standards, and use corporate systems as directed to ensure consistency of service, brand and operational standards.

You will undertake day to day activities to the best of your ability and to the required standards; and strive to learn and develop your skills and knowledge.

You will be expected to comply with corporate standards, and use corporate systems, processes and procedures– and undertake any necessary training as directed.

In addition, your duties will include:

• Carrying out conservation and restoration work on exhibits as directed

• Assisting the Large Object Conservator with the planning and day to day running of projects as required

• Supervising volunteers or other personnel employed on projects in the absence of the conservation officer

• Accurately recording all work carried out on projects

• Ensuring that Health and Safety requirements of any task carried out are complied with

• Advising the Large Object Conservator of any anticipated problems which might prevent the completion of tasks

• The pre-use inspection of any ground equipment, and its return to the appropriate storage area immediately after use

• Carrying out other duties as required ensuring the overall smooth running of the museum.

• To identify and implement learning and development needs for both yourself and your team, including volunteers, if appropriate.

• You will be expected to comply with corporate standards, and use corporate systems, processes and procedures– and undertake any necessary training as directed.

Work in such a manner as to ensure your own safety and the safety of others including members of the public and report to your manager any hazards, dangerous occurrences or dangerous equipment you see, and any accident you are involved in or are witness to.
